Of 17000 prisoners held and tortured in the Khmer Rouge prison Toul Sleng (S21), there are only 7 known survivors. Bou Meng is one of the survivors. He lived to tell his story thanks to his skills as a painter. In 2003, he began to paint pictures of his personal experiences during the KR regime. He has painted more than a 100 prints, many illustrating his detention and torture at the prison. He hopes his art will inspire the world to prevent a repeat of Cambodia’s painful past.
